Thank you. I made the mistake starting out thinking I had to replicate the exclamation mark heavy dialogue of the animation sources that inspired me, not understanding yet that written prose requires a more restrained and subtle depiction of the dialogue.

I almost always use an exclamation mark on the last sentence on most of my Substack posts:

"Thanks for reading!"

I may change it to a smiley face after reading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself there. Also, Grammarly did not underline all those exclamation marks. Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

Guilty as charged. It's true. Using an online editor rarely changes my overuse of ...

I didn't even know what the word used to describe it was until reading this article.

Thank you for explaining these rookie mistakes. Luckily I don't use exclamation points too often for emphasis, or showing excitement and drama (!!!) I just had to do it this one time. Good article.
